Passive and active acoustic sensing for soft pneumatic actuators

We propose a sensorization method for soft pneumatic actuators that uses an embedded microphone and speaker to measure different actuator properties. The physical state of the determines specific modulation sound as it travels through structure. Using simple machine learning, we create computational sensor infers corresponding from recordings. demonstrate acoustic on continuum use contact locations, forces, object materials, inflation, temperature. show is reliable (average classification rate six locations 93%), precise (mean spatial accuracy 3.7 mm), robust against common disturbances like background noise. Finally, compare sounds learning methods achieve best results with 20 ms white noise support vector classifier model.
